Greetings from New Orleans!
Wow, every time I sit down to write, I really have to give some thought to what’s been going on. I must be having fun, because this year has gone by quickly. I recently looked back at some photos to see when I began to let my hair grow back. That was in October of 13′. I’m glad to say, I still have a little bit. I did quite a bit of arranging earlier this year for Lena Prima, as well as a Cole Porter Tribute show I did for a performer on the American Queen. The Winter and Spring kept me very busy gigging all the way through the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Barb and I were able to squeeze a week off in March to visit her cousin in Tucson AZ. She had never seen the Sonoran desert, and I thought she should. As soon as the Fest was over, I went for a hike in the woods up in Buffalo River Wilderness area of Arkansas. In July, we made a 2 week NE tour to see her family in Ohio, and family I have in Lancaster PA, and Marlborough MA. On the way, we made quick stops in Rochester to see our friends, Michael and Marcia Tomb, as well as our friend Tom Kasperak (a stellar drummer whom I worked with Buddy Morrow) in Buffalo. Pretty much, the rest of the year has been dedicated to the house, music, livin and lovin’!
As for current undertakings, I continue to work on my piano and singing skills. I pick up occasional bookings for the Po’Boys, but lately, I’ve been paying more attention to Gringo do Choro. We’re maintaining a monthly appearance at Dos Jefes Cigar Bar. I have my sight on a new musical landscape emanating very soon. It may just be my last endeavor. Keep your eyes and especially your ears open for the next project!
Thank Ya’ll for visiting my page! ~Rick
